The Marsh

An eroding shoreline impacted by human use, currents, waves, and ice was reconstructed to include vegetation, varied slopes, and sinuous soft shoreline features. This engineered shoreline protects shoreline habitat. It has served as a model for other shoreline improvement projects along the Hudson River.

Climate Resilience

At Beczak, climate resilience is more than a keyword. We work to create new strategies, collect new information, and protect our local environment through education and innovation.

  • Biodiverse grassland provides natural carbon storage and creates a home for pollinators.

  • Rainwater conservation drainage system in parking lot run-off from stormwater drainage swales

  • Beczak is exploring the retrofitting of our facility into a climate-resilient building, which can lead the way in facility energy conservation. This project would serve as a signature environmental demonstration center.

Air Quality Monitoring Project

An investigation and monitoring of air pollution, particularly small particles [pm 2.5’s and pm 10’s] along the shore of the Hudson River adjacent to Yonkers, using networked air monitors. This project will coordinate with the efforts of the NYSDEC as well as other environmental organizations, and we will assist in the dissemination of our findings.

Children’s Garden

The Children's Garden plays a crucial role in educating young minds about the interconnectedness of nature and the importance of environmental conservation. Through hands-on activities such as planting, tending, and harvesting crops, children gain practical knowledge about plant life cycles, healthy eating habits, and the significance of caring for our planet.

Video Project

Continue career training of videography to local people to produce environment-centric short videos, using professional equipment and trainers, for dissemination of the BEEC mission on social media. We will develop cooperative relations with local educational organizations.

Plastic Pollution In The River

Beczak has worked to document and bring attention to the problem. Working with Riverkeepers as well as City and County officials, we are attempting to understand the source of the local discharges and to find solutions to this environmental problem.
